I keep seeing this post and Iā€™ve gotta speak up on it, because that isnā€™t a good example of color on dark skin.Ā 
Iā€™m a tattoo artist, and Iā€™ve had a bunch of clients come in saying they were told dark skin canā€™t take any color whatsoever, which is bullshit. The long and short of it is dark skin can take plenty of color, provided it isnā€™t too light.
Tattoos look best when theyā€™re fresh because the ink is still on the top layer of open skin. As the skin heals over the tattoo, the color gets less vibrant and defined. This is true of anybody of any skin tone. Tattoo pigments tend to act a lot like watercolor; theyā€™re not terribly opaque in the skin, meaning that as that tattoo ages, the white will fade into patches of slightly lighter skin, and may disappear altogether, as will lighter colors like yellows and pinks. Many artists consider doing tattoos entirely or mostly in white ink to be irresponsible for that reason, and use white ink very sparingly to create small highlights, in places where even faded ink will add contrast.

Notice how the yellow is all but gone on even the lightest skin, while the deeper reds have stayed. And that isnā€™t even factoring in sun exposure, how often the skin is submerged in water, friction, or how the skin in the area bends and flexes. I know extremely pale people who lost all the color in their tattoos in 5 years due to a variety of those factors; Iā€™m pale as they come, and the yellow in my oldest tattoo is only 2 years old and already super faded.Ā 
Color that lasts a long time is darker and more saturated than the skin itā€™s in.

See how the butterfly is still noticeably purple, and stands out in all the skin tones?
Teals, yellows, pinks and whites photograph beautifully in dark skin, but ultimately donā€™t have longevity as tattoos. Dark skin, however, can still take reds, blues, greens, purples, and browns beautifully! The best way to make color vivid in any skin is to put it in a strong black outline; tattoos like the one below will look like bruises as they age, and the fading color doesnā€™t have structured black to contrast and frame it.

Hereā€™s some color on dark skin that will age well!
The yellows in this tattoo are very saturated and framed in lots of solid black; even if they fade, the fish will stay nice and vibrant.
Similarly, the white in this tattoo will definitely lighten, but the dark reds and blacks will hold the tattoo together very well.
Tl;dr, have a solid black outline, make sure the colors you pick are darker/more saturated than your own skin, and donā€™t rely too heavily on white. These are basic tattoo principles that can and should be used when deciding on any tattoo, regardless of skintone. Hope it helps!

First of all, this is beautiful.
Second of all, as a contextual note, the rabbi said no for a reason. In Jewish conversion, one of the steps is that you must be discouraged at least three times. This comes from the story of Ruth, where Naomi told her not to follow her back to the Jewish tribe three times before giving in.
Third of all, this is beautiful.

THIS WAS SO IMPORTANT DO U UNDERSTAND. We arenā€™t a people who actively convert people. Youā€™ll never see a Jewish person try to convert you. We believe in everyoneā€™s right to believe what they want. But it was so nice to see someone who wasnā€™t raised in it be able to see value in my faith. I have never seen anything like that on tv before  

Not only that?? Its one of the only times Iā€™ve ever seen Judaism The Faith and Religion ever actually articulated on screen. What do we believe? We believe that You Choose To Do God. Thats why weā€™re the Chosen People - because we Chose to Opt In To Doing God this particular way. I have never in my life before seen any form of media EVER express what Jews ACTUALLY BELIEVE ABOUT THE UNIVERSE out loud but OITNB did. And when people ask me? I always throw them here. Because itā€™s dead on. You do God (Jewishly) and you have to choose it. Thatā€™s what we believe. Thatā€™s it. Thats the entire thing. And this is the only time we have EVER had ANY representation and I will cherish it always. And for those of you who didnā€™t see the show? She got to bathe in a mikvah equivalent and convert fully so yes, Cindy is as Jewish as the whitest Ashkenazi Jew. More, because according to the sages, the convert is to be praised for their choice and their dedication. And as such, any children she has will be Jewish too. <3 Love for Cindy. Love to any religious Jews out there who feel unseen in media (youā€™re right, we arenā€™t seen). Love for any converts out there who donā€™t feel Jewish enough (you are - no matter what branch you converted in). Extra love for all my Jews of Color (no addendum - just love to you all period). Stay strong out there yall. Write yourselves into some stories and talk about our faith okay? We deserve to be seen and known, even if we arenā€™t converting. Demystification is part of the fight against antisemitism. 


All of this, but ALSOitā€™s so rare to see black people get to be any other religion of Baptist Christian. Or to even talk about that not all of us believe in God in the way weā€™re been taught. Most of what Iā€™ve learned about Judaism I learned through the Jewish bloggers Iā€™ve found here like @prismatic-bell @realsadjewishhours and @wetwareproblem among others, but even as an agnostic black woman, I was just as happy to see Cindy find her own way, and even happier to hear that they actually did right with the conversion process this time.


And @dancinbutterflyā€™s last line is why, when my rabbi said I should go to rabbinic school, I saidā€¦..no.Rabbi means teacher, and there are a ton of good Jewish teachers of Jews out there. But there arenā€™t so many Jewish teachers of gentiles. Itā€™s why I work at cons under the name Oy Vay Productions. I am like you, except where Iā€™m not, and where Iā€™m not should not have to be frightening or mysterious to you. And then, when someone is all ā€œwell the Jews are a bunch of wealthy lizards,ā€ you can remember me, think of me teaching you not just about anime but about the fact that Jews are just people out here doing how we do, and instead of ā€œthat seems possibly incorrect but I donā€™t know enough about Jews to dispute it,ā€ you can say ā€œthat is not true, I have met and been befriended by a Jew, shared a meal and a class talked, and I know better.ā€I do my teaching by being a loud and proud Jew who is out here doing G-d an living my life. There are plenty of rabbis with skills I could only dream of having.
