We Are Veterans - We've been called Grunts and Jarheads, Squids and Swabbies, Fly boys and G.I. These were not derogatory terms. These were term of endearment and respect between us. We were Trackers, Tankers, Artillery and Gunners, Fuelers, Mechanics, Pilots and Drivers. Some have seen the horrors of war, while others served between conflicts. There are those who have never heard a shot fired in anger, while others have had those angry shots fired at them. Stories of the scars are proclaimed loudly by some and talked about in muted conversation by others. There are those who have put it all behind them and those who wish they could forget and that the nightmares would stop. Whether their breast is covered with "fruit salad" or a single ribbon bar, the crossed rifles of an expert or the "toilet bowl" of a beginner. Our uniforms were all different. We had greens, blues, whites and cracker jacks. We either wore stripes or bars. Some had rockers while occasionally we seen a "slick sleeve" standing in fear a SGT Major with eight hash marks. Their epaulets were adorned with everything from "butter bars" to glistening in the sun with four stars - It don't matter in which branch they chose to serve, despite their MOS, whether or not they shed their blood for a cause greater than themselves, they (we) all share one common title, VETERAN. The eleventh day of the eleven month is set aside to honor those who have served. Those who answered a calling that not all have heard. Those who would lay down their lives if that is what it took - Those who wore a uniform that looked like the one worn by thousands of others before and after them. 💀 At about 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Arizona State Police received a call of shots fired. When a trooper was dispatched, he found the scene of a rollover accident on I-10 at Milepost 89 with a female victim. As he began to close off the lanes of traffic, a sniper shot him in the shoulder and chest area. A fight ensued. An armed citizen arrived and took out the sniper. The trooper left a traffic stop to investigate the call. When he arrived, officials said the officer was ambushed and the suspect began fighting with him. ABC15 reported, A passerby stopped to render aid and the trooper asked for help. Officials say the driver went back to his car, grabbed a gun and shot at the suspect who was not following his commands to stop attacking the trooper. The suspect was killed. Milstead has a message for the motorist who shot the suspect and called on the trooper’s radio for help. “Thank you,” Milstead said, “because I don’t know if my trooper would be alive today without his assistance.” The concealed carrier shot the suspect multiple times.
