Drugs, Memes, and Music: The Black Eyed Peas Say Music Today Does Not Address Important lssues @balleralert The Black Eyed Peas Say Music Today Does Not Address Important Issues- Blogged By @tktrinidad ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It has been eight years since TheBlackEyedPeas released an album, but now they’re back with a new single called “Street Livin’” which focuses on social justice and change. The Black Eyed Peas have been very vocal in saying that music of today needs a message, especially with topics like racism and sexism being at the forefront. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During an interview with Variety, the group talked about sexism in the music industry and how music currently lacks a sense of activism, especially surrounding the MeToo movement. Will.i.am said, “Music is probably … it does a really good job at diminishing the power of a woman. And that’s really sad. Especially Hip Hop, rock — sex, drugs and rock and roll. A woman is a resource in that sentence. It’s sad.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Taboo then went on to say that music doesn’t have a call to action anymore. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “It’s sad that, in this day and age of music, we don’t have a huge support for activism as we used to.In the ’60s, everybody was trying to make a statement with their music. It seems like more athletes are making a statement, standing up for causes, than actually in the music industry.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are your thoughts?
