Iā€™ve asked parents about this and they always say they are teaching the child responsibility and ā€œrespect for other peopleā€™s things.ā€ If I point out that the child accidentally broke their own toy they always sayĀ ā€œI bought them that toyā€ orĀ ā€œmy sister gave that to them.ā€
The problem is that parents view all possessions as not really belonging to the child. A part of them always seems to think that the adult who provided the money is the real owner
If a parent breaks a dish they see it as breaking something that already belonged to them, but if a child breaks it they see it as the child breaking something that belonged to the parents 
People raising children need to realize that household possessions belong to the entire household. If everyone has to use that plate then it belongs to everyone and anyone can have a forgivable accident with it. Itā€™s okay to deem certain possessions as just yours and ask everyone in the house to respect that, but extend the same respect to your childā€™s belongings

Big mood. I know most of these are talking about little little kids, but hereā€™s a tale from middle school. I had forgotten to charge my phone one night, and this was back when cell phones used to beep loudly when they were low on battery. I kept hearing the noise throughout the afternoon and not recognizing what it was because Iā€™d never heard it before. When I finally did realize what it was, I was in science class and my fellow classmates were making presentations. I reached into my bag to try to turn off the phone, and then the low-battery sound went off, loud enough for the teacher to hear it. She confiscated my phone in front of everyone, and I didnā€™t get it back until after the weekend because it was a Friday. I was really embarrassed, especially to tell my parents.
When I got my phone back that Monday, my teacher said it was important for me to learn this lesson now since in college they wouldnā€™t tolerate phones going off. Fast forward to when I was in college, any time someoneā€™s phone went off, either the professor would tell them to turn it off, or they would say, ā€œOh, my bad,ā€ and turn it off themselves, and everyone would move on. I even had a professor who danced around while someoneā€™s phone went off, and it was a welcome moment of levity during the lecture. 
I say all this to say, one of the worst aspects of being a child/teen was adults assuming my intentions were malicious.

The problem is, even if families are forgiving the culture around children still effects the child. I use myself as proof of that. 
A few times between the ages of 4 and 18 I broke things. I broke my grandmaā€™s favorite Christmas ornament. Her first question was: ā€œAre you hurt?ā€ and when I apologized profusely she said ā€œIā€™m just glad you werenā€™t hurt.ā€
I broke a few plates. I broke a couple glasses. Every time my dadā€™s first response was ā€œDid you get cut?ā€ the second step was cleaning up the broken bits, and the third was a discussion of what led to me breaking it and how I could avoid doing that in the future.
Same with spills. Same with stains. My biggest ā€œpunishmentā€ from my immediate family was being taught how to clean up the mess I made and being shown in detail how to avoid the same mistake in the future if it was avoidable. There were consequences for my actions, but they were the direct result of those actions and nothing much beyond that.
My family tried so hard to teach me how to deal with accidents in a healthy way. They were patient. They treated every slip-up as a learning opportunity. They showed me a lot of love. The other adults still got to me. Teachers still punished and publicly shamed me and other students for our mess-ups. Extended family members outside of my small supportive circle still yelled at me. My friendsā€™ parents still got mad.
To the point where whenever I messed up my first instinct was that my dad or grandparents were going to punish me, or yell at me, or hit me, even though they never did. They just didnā€™t. They always responded with patience and an attitude of ā€œIā€™m glad youā€™re safe and I want to help you learn from this.ā€ And I was still afraid of messing up. Mortified. Expecting the worst every time.

Thatā€™s just where the spooky is. Everything else is just noise from large populations.

I started adding any horror movie at all, not just well-known ones. Also, itā€™s global now!

WORLD EGO AWARENESS DAY - MAY 11 2020
On May 11th, we observe Ā World Ego Awareness Day (WEAD). We ask for your participation in this growing global movement to raise social awareness about the Egotism. While we hope that people will educate themselves and others throughout the year, this dedicated day gives us the opportunity to collaborate and amplify each otherā€™s understanding.
The Ego Awareness Movement and WEAD was established in 2018 to support all those that are affected with this mental condition and work towards preventing others from experiencing the effects of this invisible form of abuse.
Through education and advocacy we can help reduce the number of people throughout the world who fall victim to egotism; to increase their ability to be centered in present-moment-awareness and experience life to the fullest. Ā Ego Awareness Day aims to highlight the issues surrounding egotism; encouraging everyone to be mindful, raise our consciousness and speak out against narcissistic or egotistic learned behavior. Together we can work to inform, educate, deter and prevent one of the major causes of human suffering on our planet.
Research has shown that being influenced by the effects of the unobserved egoic mind can be responsible for most of our afflictions including a false sense of superiority, inferiority complex, prejudices, judging others, manipulation, rage, addictions, stress, violence, racism, sexism, the need for praise, approval, being reactionary, lack of empathy, loneliness, despair, false propaganda, religious and tribal wars and so on. All such negative and destructive traits have serious consequences in our personal relationships and the world at large.
Why participate? Many people who suffer from egotism, which is a learned form of psychological and emotional abuse, are not even aware that what they are experiencing is this type of abuse. Ā When they become aware that they are a perpetrator or the one that is being abused, they have a difficult time articulating or describing it because itā€™s so hard to put a finger on. Therefore, resources for survivors have been made available.
What can you do? Ā Join the movement. Ā Like-minded people, organizations and communities can help share information on this subject with their audience through various channels such as social media, blog pages, local events and community involvement. Ā You can also show support by distributing our ego awareness pamphlets and/or wearing badges. Talk to other advocates and other organizations dedicated to mindfulness, awareness, life-coaching, self-help, spirituality and so forth. Ā Organize events or incorporate messaging into existing events in order to educate your audience about egotism.

 to ask for her name. She became afraid and started
 walking away. I followed her, and then she went from
 walking briskly to running. Her gait was peculiar, because
 she ran like a newborn fawn, turning around every so
 often, trying to see if I am still following.

 and did not have any intention in that direction, not

Something I remember from my Criminal Law classes is that, quite genuinely, looking at someone (occasionally even pointedly not doing so) can constitute assault.
It seems absurd, looking at someone? Whereā€™s the harm, right?
Well, it turns out itā€™s so that the law has recourse against people who just stand in a public space and start through someoneā€™s living room window. For weeks.
Just randomly chasing somebody, even without intent to actually harm, is legally assault. Itā€™s not harmless, itā€™s months or even years of therapy and paranoia against ever going outside your home, if you even think your home is still safe.

The truth is that people tend to lie on social networks. How? First, people directly lie about their lives, which is often an effort to make themselves look more desirable or positive. In a study examining 80 online daters, Hancock, Toma, and Ellison found that two thirds of participants lied about their weight by five pounds or more. In a large sample of over 2000 people in England conducted by Custard.com, 43 percent of men admitted to making up facts about themselves and their lives that were not true online.
Even more commonly, people ā€œlieā€ by presenting an image of themselves and their lives that is imprecise or less than comprehensive, leading the viewer to believe falsehoods. For example, in the Custard.com study, only 18 percent of men and 19 percent of women reported that their Facebook page displayed ā€œa completely accurate reflectionā€ of who they are. Most commonly, participants said that they only shared ā€œnon-boringā€ aspects of their lives (32 percent) and were not as ā€œactiveā€ as their social media accounts appeared (14 percent). 
Indeed, a growing body of research suggests that social media use can negatively affect your psychological health, particularly if you compare yourself to the positive images you see online. In a study of 339 college women (Puglia, 2017), the tendency to compare oneself to others was associated with poorer body esteem. Furthermore, in a sub-sample of 58 women in the Puglia study, those with higher levels of Facebook usage displayed lower body satisfaction than those with lower Facebook usage. Similarly, in an experimental study by Vogel and colleagues, participants who tended to compare themselves to others more regularly had lower self-esteem, more negative emotions, and a poorer view of themselves after using Facebook than participants who did not tend to compare themselves to others.Ā 
Consequently, when engaging with social media, it is critical to remind yourself that what you see is not an accurate picture of reality.  mental, physical, and nutritional needs of every single student
 you come into contact with is met...daily. Form deep, personal,
 caring, loving, but irreproachably professional relationships
 with each of those students. Do not be their friend. Make sure
 they know they can come to you at any time for any reason.
 Hold them to the highest standards of excellence but do not put
 any undue pressure or expectations on them that might damage
 their self-esteem or world view. Always give them a pencil,
 even if you've given them one every day for three marking
 periods. Put aside standards and tests when national or world
 issues of importance arise in order to facilitate meaningful,
 woke conversations that will help strengthen their social
 emotional learning and empathy. Never talk to them about
 politics or controversial issues because that could be viewed as
 trying to force your views on them. Maintain a classroom that is
 engaging, fun, comfortable, and visually appealing because
 students won't learn in an environment that they do not enjoy
 Do not crowd your room with too many overstimulating,
 colorful, interesting items that distract students from the
 learning process. Instill a sense of growing independence and
 self-responsibility in every student while communicating about
 everything they do in school to their parents daily via email,
 text, phone calls, newsletters, and blog posts. Focus on real life
 learning that people really use like bill paying, financial
 investment, conflict mediation, small appliance repair, etc
 Make sure all students are proficient on state assessment tests

 because you get summers off. Make sure you come into your

Uhhh thatā€™s super fucked up if true. Imagine destroying your childā€™s toys and brushing it off

I mean this is genuinely abusive. You can laugh it off now, but your parent destroyed your beloved possession just because your interests didnā€™t match theirs and they couldnā€™t manage their emotions. Thatā€™s a horrible way to treat your child.


Ya that is fucked up :) but seriously you guys have some weird impressions of what parents are. They are dumbass adults who grew biological polyps. They are allowed to have feelings. Yeah turning SpongeBob into a Dexter pillow is not a stellar response to grateing nautical laughter, but it didnā€™t hurt anyone, and they can laugh about it now, what secret psychological dagger do you think was rammed into their heart? Abuse is more then being petty, it is more than being mean. 


Emotional parental abuse fucks you over about as much as physical one, but we just donā€™t talk about it. 

Donā€™t excuse abuse with ā€œtheyā€™re just human and have feelingsā€. I have feelings, too, but do I break things belonging to my loved ones? Do I rip off the arms and legs of my fianceeā€™s or my brothersā€™ action figures and plushes? No! Because I love those people and treat their things with respect. It 100% does hurt people. Can you not imagine the pain of being a child and having your favourite stuffed toy go missing? Can you imagine the trauma of seeing your favourite stuffed toy mutilated when youā€™re just a child?Not respecting somebodyā€™s belongings or going out of your way to destroy or get rid of somebodyā€™s belongings is abuse. I know this because I was abused and this was done to me as part of my abuserā€™s control over me.Yes, abuse is more than being mean. Glad you mentioned that. Abuse is being mean, to somebody youā€™re supposed to love and care for, and who trusts you deeply. Youā€™ve proved my point.


Tearing up your kids toy is the same as destroying your fiances xbox. 
My mom practically grounded me every time I watched Cartoon Network because she thought it was annoying. 


My parents used to bully me for liking anime and even told me that the only way to get people to like me is to abandon it and become ā€œnormal, instead of watching stupid trash.ā€ When I mentioned my classmates making fun of me they said ā€œof course they will if you continue to watch garbage.ā€

Uhhh thatā€™s super fucked up if true. Imagine destroying your childā€™s toys and brushing it off

I mean this is genuinely abusive. You can laugh it off now, but your parent destroyed your beloved possession just because your interests didnā€™t match theirs and they couldnā€™t manage their emotions. Thatā€™s a horrible way to treat your child.


Ya that is fucked up :) but seriously you guys have some weird impressions of what parents are. They are dumbass adults who grew biological polyps. They are allowed to have feelings. Yeah turning SpongeBob into a Dexter pillow is not a stellar response to grateing nautical laughter, but it didnā€™t hurt anyone, and they can laugh about it now, what secret psychological dagger do you think was rammed into their heart? Abuse is more then being petty, it is more than being mean. 


Emotional parental abuse fucks you over about as much as physical one, but we just donā€™t talk about it. 

Donā€™t excuse abuse with ā€œtheyā€™re just human and have feelingsā€. I have feelings, too, but do I break things belonging to my loved ones? Do I rip off the arms and legs of my fianceeā€™s or my brothersā€™ action figures and plushes? No! Because I love those people and treat their things with respect. It 100% does hurt people. Can you not imagine the pain of being a child and having your favourite stuffed toy go missing? Can you imagine the trauma of seeing your favourite stuffed toy mutilated when youā€™re just a child?Not respecting somebodyā€™s belongings or going out of your way to destroy or get rid of somebodyā€™s belongings is abuse. I know this because I was abused and this was done to me as part of my abuserā€™s control over me.Yes, abuse is more than being mean. Glad you mentioned that. Abuse is being mean, to somebody youā€™re supposed to love and care for, and who trusts you deeply. Youā€™ve proved my point.


Tearing up your kids toy is the same as destroying your fiances xbox. 
My mom practically grounded me every time I watched Cartoon Network because she thought it was annoying. 


My parents used to bully me for liking anime and even told me that the only way to get people to like me is to abandon it and become ā€œnormal, instead of watching stupid trash.ā€ When I mentioned my classmates making fun of me they said ā€œof course they will if you continue to watch garbage.ā€ 
Worst part was that the lesson I ACTUALLY needed to learn was ā€œbe considerate about others, not everyone likes the same thing as you, thereā€™s a time and place to talk about your interests.ā€ But they didnā€™t know how to teach that to me and thought if they verbally abused me Iā€™d somehow get the message from that.
