 thing that made you cry?
 I went to theatre school. I took two semesters of ballet. I'm the sissy in my
 family. I cry with pretty great regularity. It's not entirely accurate to
 equate me with manliness. I stand for my principals and I work hard and
 I have good manners but machismo is a double-sided coin. Alot of people
 think it requires behavior that can quickly veer into misogyny and things
 I consider indecent. We've been sold this weird John Wayne mentality
 that fistfights and violence are vital to being a man. I'd rather hug than
 punch. Crying at something that moves you to joy or sadness is just as
 manly as chopping down a tree or punching out a bad guy. To answer
 your question, I recently saw Alicia Keys perform live. I'd never seen her
 before and the sheer golden, heavenly talent issuing from her and her
 singing instrument had both my wife and me in tears. What a gorgeous
 gift she has. Her voice is so great. And I had no shame Tabout crying.1 If
 you live your life openly with your emotions, that's a more manly stance
 than burying them

<p>Having actually worked several minimum wage hours when I was younger, I can honestly say I got paid a fair wage for work I was doing.  I of course wanted to earn more so I could spend my money on more stuff, so I worked hard and earned a raise.  Despite this, the government always took out about 17% of my weekly earnings without my permission which did limit my spending each pay period.</p>
<p>So, yes, I did understand the solution - I did not want to keep working for minimum wage to receive minimum pay so I worked my way to a higher wage or found new jobs that paid more.  Pretty simple concept.</p>

Luckily, I had plenty of opportunities to earn degrees and find better paying jobs myself. I even started my own business and have been successful enough to provide a middle class lifestyle for my family in a country where that is increasingly harder to accomplish. The difference here is that I understand that I am where I am today because of privilege and circumstances not available to everyone in our country. Yes, I’ve worked my ass off to get where I am. I work hard every week as a teacher, and as the owner of a retail business. But I don’t kid myself into thinking my labor is somehow harder than the single mom working at McDonald’s. I’ve been there. Those jobs suck. I also don’t buy into this false narrative that equates wealth with harder work. If anything, I’ve noticed that the more money people earn, the less work they tend to do, because they usually end up getting others to work for them. People in the wealthiest nation on earth should not put in 40 hours a week for a poverty wage and no benefits that in turn require taxpayers to subsidize them, so they can survive. How can you not see that? How have you bought into this fantasy to the point that you think corporations making obscene profits at the expense of their employees and WE the TAXPAYERS are somehow in the right for fucking us all over, while getting you to bash the hardworking people who make their profits possible?</p>

People are all different.  They start at different places, they have different skills, different qualities, different personalities, different physical characteristics, different lifestyles, different upbringings, different education, etc.  This truth does not permit equal outcomes.  Some people will be successful with what they are given and some will not.  Some people will rise from poverty into wealth and some will fall from affluence into destitution.</p>
<p>Therefore, you were successful because you <i>chose</i> to be successful.  It was not because you were more privileged than somebody else; it was because you worked hard.  And everyone has the opportunity to work hard in order to better themselves.  So, when you create policies to theoretically “prop someone up” in order to give them an “equal” advantage, you are not doing anything to change this.  They are ultimately the arbiters of their own destiny.  </p>
<p>Minimum wages helps no one.  It is an artificial price floor to distort the market in favor of groups.  That’s why the unions <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/carriesheffield/2014/04/29/on-the-historically-racist-motivations-behind-minimum-wage/#3cbee6a11957">originally created it</a> and that’s why they promote it today while also <a href="http://www.economics21.org/commentary/unions-exempt-themselves-minimum-wage-hikes-05-28-2015">exempting themselves from it</a>.  It is because I understand these inconvenient truths that I do not support the minimum wage.  And I find it quite sad that a supposed “business owner” would not understand the concept.  But then again, what would you expect from someone who’s blog tagline is, “<i>The Revolution will not be televised.
